I bought some small rubberbands today and told L what they were for and she was anxious for me to put them in her hair. She really seemed to like wearing pigtails. She kept looking at her reflection in different places.

We enjoyed a visit to Boone, NC to see T's nephew get married. L enjoyed seeing everyone and the snow. She also got a pooh bear from T's sister's family and she loves singing the pooh song. Pudding seems to be a favorite of L's now.

We enjoyed time with my family in AL over the weekend. L had a good time unwrapping presents, being with her cousins and grand mother and grand daddy and riding the golf cart. She did much better traveling this time and chatted away in the back seat.

Christmas Cookies

I was supposed to do some Christmas cookie baking with a friend and her son, but they had to cancel so i decided to go ahead and try making some with L. She did better than I expected. She loved putting on the sprinkles and of course kept wanting to eat the dough while preparing them. I hope this will be a tradition we do every year.

Holiday Fun

We are enjoying the holidays with L. She loves the Christmas tree and lights and moving reindeer in people's yards. She recently figured out how to flip over her diaper stacker and had a great time emptying it into her bed. My friend Jenny was so kind to give L some pretty clothes for Christmas (dress and outfit and kitty cat outfit). We had a fun time at our neighborhood Christmas party. L. loved playing with the older children and cried when they had to leave.

We decided to carve our pumpkin this year knowing L would enjoy it. Tom was meticulous (as an engineer) in carving his side of the pumpkin with the AU. I didn't take so much time to carve my side with the cat face (since L likes cats). I'd forgotten though how time consuming and difficult it can be to carve a pumpkin.

It seems there are many festivals to attend in October. We enjoyed yet another one this weekend where there were hayrides, pumpkins, blacksmith demo, etc. They had several antique tractors there for viewing. (this park was once a farm).

First haircut

L did pretty well for this first cut. I was expecting much worse but she was distracted by a few things. She got everything shaped up which meant cutting off her longer hair/curls in the back. She was happy to get the necklace out of the treasure chest and get a sucker too.

I watched my friends 15 mo old son Friday while she had a garage sale. It was fun to watch L and him interact. L seems to think when he's coming towards her that he's chasing her so she runs away smiling and squealing. They're used to each other as we get together once a week. We'll watch him again tomorrow.

I just got this cute second hand tricycle for L. She loves to get on it and be pushed around as she's not really big enough for it yet. Also Virginia, my mother in law continues to bless me by keeping L for me on occasion so I can get out and do some things. This is L's favorite thing to do these days....see how many things she can stack into a certain area or space! She get's way more on there than I think she can. And of course the frustration comes when things all fall off! She now says War Eagle and will soon be cheering for our Auburn tigers! She also loves to say "where are you?" by saying "Are you?" We've seen some big rabbits in the neighbors yard lately so we go out looking for them and she asks "Are you?" She really is alot of fun!

22 months

L. is 22 months today. She is now saying 3 syllable words and continues to be lots of fun. She recognizes the church and parks now as we're driving up. Her favorite word is "fall". When she stacks her toys up on the chair and they fall off or she sees things stacked on top of shelving in the grocery store or I tell her to sit down in her stroller she says "fall".

L. loves to swing and Tom found a tree limb in the backyard where we could hang a swing. I went to a consignment sale hoping to find a swing and I did! Now L. wants to go outside and "wing!"

Lots of mommies and kids come to this fountain midday. This was L's second time. She seemed to really enjoy it both times even though it can be scary with kids running past/knocking you down. Fun times ahead this summer!

Visit from Mom

We had a fun time visiting with Mom as she came up for a few days. We enjoyed a trip to the zoo (realize it will be more fun for L when she's a little older and can spot the animals easier out in their environment). We also enjoyed eating out, watching movies and shopping. It was fun to watch L. call my mom "mah" and point to her. We also had Tom's parents over for dinner one nite and had a good visit with them. Strawberries

We took L strawberry picking for the first time. I thought T and I would take turns letting her walk around while one of us picked strawberries, but we both started picking and she did pretty well. She got strawberry stuff all over her and then wanted to be picked up. We both ended up a mess by the time it was all over. T. finished up the strawberry picking and we've got nice strawberries in the freezer now.

Easter

We had a good day celebrating Easter. We attended our early church service and dropped L. off in a very full nursery. We then enjoyed a later lunch with Tom's family at a local restaurant. We all took turns entertaining L. at the restaurant as we stayed there several hours visiting. She did really well for having such a short nap. We finished the day grilling out hamburgers and enjoying a walk. Thankful for what the Lord did for us....taking on our sin....dying a cruel death....and rising again! We have much to celebrate!

Easter Egg Hunt

Today we went to a local church's free easter egg hunt. We signed in and a lady had to put a band on L's arm which made her very upset. Then we hurridly made it to our place right before they let lots of small children loose in a small area with lots of eggs. L was still not herself and was overwhelmed I'm sure. We picked up 4 eggs for her and then they were all gone! (within 30 seconds of starting...it was over). We stuck around and enjoyed a nice picnic.

Pool Time

L. loves the water and recently enjoyed putting her hands in a fountain at a park. I thought I'd get out the new pool for her to try. Even though it was nice out, the water was cold, but she felt it with her hands and then dove on in! She loves balls too, so that makes the pool even more fun. She has to get out and explore some too and pick flowers in between dips in the pool.

Today L. is 17 months! She's doing alot more babbling and she tries to repeat alot of words we say. I get tickled hearing her trying new words. She has just taken off walking this past month and in the past week has been walking around the house (without holding our hand). We enjoyed our afternoon with our new friends that I met at Moms n More at church. Lisa and her 10 month old girl Rebecca played with us on the playground. Lisa fed the geese cheerios and L. would giggle the few times the goose got the cheerio off her stroller. L. is still not confident to get up and walk...so we enjoyed the swing , sitting in the pinestraw, strolling around and feeding the geese. I'm thankful for this warmer weather and for new friends!

15 month appt

Lela had a good 15 month appt at the Dr. She's in the higher percentages for everything. She's trying to talk more and will now take steps walking between T and me. She's gotten lots of teeth in this past month. She continues to be a sweet and cuddly girl (which is so fun). T. loves to play with her (swinging around and throwing in the air) and get her to laugh. We enjoyed a nite out on the town for Valentines Day while L. slept at my in-laws. It's great to have them close by and really nice that they're willing to keep her.

We had several days of snow and ice and were housebound. L. was not so impressed with the snow. I am thankful to see it melting. We enjoyed seeing in the new year by dancing the night away - our tradition over the last years. L. continues to learn more and she actually babbles in sentences now. She can say more words too - tries to mimic what we say. She took her first steps yesterday and was walking back and forth to T. and me today. She's cutting more teeth and has been hit or miss on her naps.

It was a fun Christmas as L. is almost 14 months old. She knew how to "open" her presents by pulling the paper. We spent the day with Tom's family and it was fun watching L. interact with all the family members. L. got this cute red hat from one of her great Aunts. We ended up with a white Christmas and no troubles getting around on the roads as was predicted. It was a great time!

L. just turned 13 months. She is becoming more expressive - showing excitement over seeing certain things (animals, balloons, etc). She also says a few words and now points to things in books. She just cut her 5th tooth as well.We put up our tree this weekend and decorated the house. So far L. hasn't seem too interested in the tree. I'm looking forward to fun holiday activities including having friends over from MTW for a visit, Christmas music and programs, enjoying time with L during the season and spending time with Tom's family for Christmas.

Thanksgiving

We enjoyed time with my family in AL for Thanksgiving. L. did well in her travels and enjoyed seeing her cousins. We stopped in Auburn on the way back and saw Toomers Corner rolled from the big AU/AL game. It sure had a lot of toilet paper on it for a holiday weekend when most students were away!

We enjoyed having Mom here for the weekend to celebrate L's birthday. We had a fun time with family and friends opening gifts and eating a farm animal theme cake. I was surprised that she dug right into the icing on the cake and ate a good bit of the cake. She really loved the ball that Melanie gave her. She also received a couple of toys to use when walking/to help her walk. She took an extra long nap after cake and celebrating.

We enjoyed a beautiful fall day by going to a pumpkin patch, swinging at a park and walking a dog in the park. L. really likes to be outside and will go to the glass sliding door just to look out. She is understanding more and communicating that to us. She loves to explore and we have to watch her closely as silence usually means trouble. We're looking forward to celebrating her birthday in just a few weeks. This time last year we were busy trying to tie up loose ends in preparation for her arrival and doing something fun together every weekend. She continues to bring us great joy.

11 months and anniversary

L. turns 11 months tomorrow. I've already ordered her birthday cake - farm animal theme since she loves the old mcdonald song. I'm enjoying making some new mommy friends and walking with them or hanging out in the park. L. can now climb steps in just a few seconds. She continues to cruise around but no walking yet. She is eating more finger foods these days. She says some syllables too. We're enjoying getting out in the cooler weather. We celebrated our 4th anniversary by going out to dinner and dancing.

Fall is my favorite season - cooler weather and AU football. I look forward to being outdoors more with L. We spent some time outside having a picnic. The mosquitoes were pretty bad so we didn't stay out too long. Also we got a good laugh out of this one picture of L's hair. In Laws 60th Anniversary

I enjoyed a visit with family and friends over the weekend. Also, we went for L's 9 month appointment and she is close to the 80th percentile for weight and height. We'll now start on more foods such as dairy and meat. Looks like she is on the hunt for something good in the refrigerator.

Standing in Crib

Tom discovered Lela standing in her crib this morning for the first time. She was so excited. Matter of fact, she slept very little today due to her new feat. She even knew how to fall back down which I was glad to see. I hear of some babies that cry because they don't know how to get back down. I watched her while she wasn't looking and she was so thrilled with her new viewpoint. She was smiling, bouncing up and down and talking.

Crawling

Lela is officially crawling at 8.5 months. She can get around pretty well - will move from the den into the kitchen where I am. I'll have to start baby proofing everything now. She is giving up her third nap of the day it seems. She continues to be very curious about everything and every noise. She still loves to put everything in her mouth. We have fun making her laugh and smile.

Charleston

This was our second trip to Charleston. We enjoyed again hearing about the rich history. We toured 2 homes and a museum. This was our first weekend away without Lela and Tom's parents kept her. It seems Lela and Tom's parents enjoyed the weekend as well. Lela is really close to crawling - up on her hands and knees and moving forward a little bit.

We enjoyed our visit with Hillary - a tennis buddy of mine. Lela seems to do better and better with those she's not so familiar with. We had a good visit with Molly who is going to be an RUF intern in Santa Barbara, CA. She and I lived together for 2 years before I married Tom. She played an important role in letting Tom know the type of engagement ring I was interested in. It was fun to catch up with her and hear about exciting adventures that lie ahead. Lela is able to sit unassisted for the most part. It's fun to watch her achieve new accomplishments.

Lela and i have been going for a walk everyday (before it gets too hot) so we have to get out our sunscreen and hat to cover up. She is about to outgrow her infant seat so i've been putting her in the stroller without it. It's a bit big for her. She gets sleepy on these walks. I'm glad she's content though.

Baptism

Visit with Kirk, Tammy and Charlie

We enjoyed a lunch with Kirk, Tammy and Charlie today. Charlie looks so tall now even though i just saw her 2 months ago. Also I have introduced the sippy cup to Lela. It's too difficult to suck out of really...she just bites on it and gets water out that way. We've been running more errands together now that she is awake more during the day. She also had one day where her teeth seemed to bother her. No teeth yet though.

6 month checkup

Lela had a good 6 month check up. She's almost 18 lbs and is in the 80th something percentile for height and weight. She can now start on foods besides cereals. I plan to make her baby food. It's fun watching her try new foods...makes me laugh. She wasn't so keen on avacado...but got used to it. She likes bananas though. She continues to sleep 17.5 hours a day and i'm so thankful Tom works from home and can watch her while she sleeps so I don't have to disturb her sleep to run errands. We've put her in the church nursery the past 2 Sundays and she's slept both times - thankful for that.

Kitchen upgrade almost complete

We started this kitchen upgrade in Aug of 09 and it was supposed to be complete before November when Lela was born.....finally in May 2010....we are very close to complete. Painted trim, new countertops, backspash, crown molding, painted cabinets (with no more routing), new sink and new color on the walls. I'm so glad we're through with the big mess of sawdust and cleaning out the cabinets. We lived without all the stuff in our drawers for so long that when we finally got the drawers back, I had forgotten which drawers some things went in! It also feels very strange to have cabinet doors up! I'm thankful we see the light at the end of the tunnel! Now Tom is onto finishing the trim in all the house!

Strawberry Picking

I went to a local farm and picked some strawberries. I made some strawberry tarts/pies with them and have frozen the rest. They are yummy. Lela wanted to get her hands on those strawberries.

5 1/2 months

Lela is becoming more verbal (outside of cooing in her crib when trying to go to sleep or after waking up). She didn't cry around my mother in law today...she's getting used to her. She is eating other cereals and usually eats quickly. I'll be curious to see what she weighs now - we'll go to her 6 month appt in a week or so. This week marks my 9 year anniversary of being in Atlanta. It's hard to believe.

Andrew's first birthday

Becky's wedding shower

I enjoyed going to a shower for Becky - a girl i worked with at MTW. I was able to put Lela in another room - to sleep on her pack n play mat. It was fun to visit with Becky and hear about her fiance since I'd not seen her in several years. Tom was busy painting the trim in our kitchen today while we were out. The smell (kilz) was so strong when i got back, that i took her out again to sleep. He wants to paint the trim in the whole house which could be a "several weekend" project. It will look great when it's all done.

Easter and birthday

My mother in law, Virginia will have her 82nd birthday tomorrow. We celebrated by having the family over for grilled chicken and coconut cake (her favorite). Lela enjoyed seeing all the family and being held by everyone ...without crying (a first for the past 2 months). I also helped in the nursery this Sunday and took Lela for the first time. She slept most of the time even in the midst of other crying babies. The latest with Lela is: she enjoys her rice cereal, she turns over with ease (tummy to back), she can stand for several minutes by just holding her hands, we've gotten a few more laughs out of her. She is really attentive to her surroundings and easily distracted when she's eating. She continues to be a good natured baby in that she wakes up cooing and will lay there for a while content. She loves music and singing and we read books together too. She continues to sleep 18 hours a day. She's alot of fun in that she smiles alot and is fun to interact with.

I enjoyed a visit with Gina this week. Her little boy, Andrew, turns one this month. I remember having coffee with her on Good Friday last year (2 days before Andrew was born) and I was 9 wks pregnant. I wished she and I lived closer so we could see each other more often.

Lela likes bouncing up and down as Tom is doing with her - gets a giggle out of her. It's fun to get out the summer clothes and wear some new duds. I'm looking forward to the spring weather. Lela seems to be very hot natured, so it will be interesting to see how she does this summer. I just put her in her exersaucer and she seems to enjoy it. We tried it a month ago and she wasn't ready.

Overalls

I've had fun putting Lela in the hand me downs that Shelly gave me. I love these overalls. Tom's mom came over to watch her while i ran some errands. Lela continues to be a little fussy around people other than Tom or me....hopefully she'll not stay in this phase too long...maybe when we get her in the nursery at church, etc she'll become more comfortable with other people.

I started Lela on solids this weekend due to 2 nights of her waking up in the middle of the night wanting a feeding. Not sure if it was a growth spurt or needing more food in general, but i started her anyway. She took the spoon just fine. Also Tom has been promoting his website selling rocking and carousel horses. (www.carouselandrockinghorses.com) and will be doing a giveaway soon. Check it out and become a fan on facebook too! We thought there's no better way to promote the rocking horses than Lela doing a demo! She's a cowgirl at heart I believe...check out the jeans and one handed ride...yeehaw!

4 month check up

Lela got a good report at the Dr's office this week. She's in the 79th percentile for weight. She's 15 lbs 5 oz. I can now start her on solids whenever I want and can spread her feedings to 3.5 or 4 hours. She continues to be a good sleeper - sleeping 18 hours a day most times. She laughed for the first time this week! I've been trying to get more laughs out of her - but haven't found the secret ingredient. It's fun watching her grow and change and be able to do more things. She continues to want to "mouth" everything to check it out.

Traveling with a 4 month old

My mother in law, Virginia comes over and stays with Lela sometimes while i go out on an errand or go to the gym. She's been a blessing. Lela's latest thing is she no longer squeals, but coos more and with facial expressions. She keeps her fingers in her mouth all the time. I am guessing she's teething. She enjoys music of any kind and likes it when we sing to her. She continues to enjoy her bath and has outgrown the hammock we used in the tub those first couple of months. Mom gave her these letters for the nursery as her Christmas present. We enjoyed seeing family this past weekend in AL for my Dad's birthday. Lela did better than i expected as far as not being scared of everyone (as she's been before). Forgot to take my camera. Traveling takes alot longer now that we have to feed her every 3 hours. It took us 6 and 7 hours instead of our normal 3.5-4 hours! She slept well most of the time.

Snow

We had several inches of snow this weekend! This was the first snow for Lela. Also she really enjoys the mobile that McKenzie let me borrow. She's almost 15 weeks now.

Independence

Lela can now hold things on her own. She can make her own noise now by shaking this rattle or keys. She especially likes smiling at Daddy when he makes noises and interacts with her.

Aubie the Tiger

I recently got this tiger for Lela that sings a song to her (goodnight song) and actually says her name in the song. Aubie will be it's name since she will be an Auburn tiger one day. She is 12 wks old in this picture. She's becoming more verbal - cooing in longer strings. She consistently eats and sleeps all day long and is sleeping 8 hours at night. She is a good baby.

We enjoyed time with Tom's family here in Atlanta for Christmas day. It was the first time we'd celebrated a holiday with Lela (and family). Everyone was so sweet to hold her - she was quite content. A friend from the office handmade this cute Christmas dress and headband for her.

Santa's Helper

We enjoyed a visit from Mom and Dad and my brother Gip yesterday. This was the first time my Dad and brother had seen her. She wore her Santa's hat to be festive for the season. Lela is now 6 weeks old and is putting on some weight. I could see her cheeks getting more chubby this week. She's doing better with nursing as well. I am now going to allow her to sleep longer at night which means more sleep for me. :)
